Wild Camping & Motor Homes
BE RESPECTFUL OF THE SURROUNDINGS, TAKE ONLY MEMORIES AND LEAVE NO TRACE!
Motor homes on Raasay
Raasay currently does not have any camp sites, waste disposal points or electric hook up. The only public toilets on the island are at the ferry terminal. (Please do not use the toilets as a waste disposal) If you do decide to visit Raasay in your motor home please remember that motor homes coming to Raasay can create difficulties on our narrow single track roads.
In particular, please note that there is no such thing as “wild camping” in Scotland in a motor home or camper van. The Scottish Outdoor Access Code specifically excludes motorised access.
Wild Camping on Raasay
Access rights on Raasay extend to wild camping. This type of camping is lightweight, in small numbers and only for two or three nights in any one place. You can camp in this way wherever access rights apply, but help to avoid causing problems for our community by not camping in enclosed fields of crops or farm animals and by keeping well away from buildings, roads or historic structures.
Please remember to leave no trace by:
Taking away all your litter
Removing all traces of your tent pitch and of any open fire (follow the guidance for lighting fires)
Please remember you can help support a sustainable tourism industry by support our community, buying groceries in our community shop, visiting our shops and distillery, or enjoying lunch, drinks or an evening meal at Raasay House.
