In light of recent discussions on this page, it seems more timely than ever that we need a place to talk and debate. But if Facebook isn’t suitable, where is this place? By the milk fridge in the shop? In the old phone boxes? Under Henderson’s bridge?
What we need is a neutral, accessible space with a thoughtful process. That’s why I’d like to invite you to join a new community forum at our hall. Emerging from the Conversations of Consequence workshop, this series will create space for conversations that affect our shared island life.
It’s intended to build trust and cohesion through regular open dialogue about things that matter to us all. What would the benefits be? What would Raasay look like in 5 years if we built this?
As the community faces ongoing changes and decisions, it’s important we listen to each other’s perspectives, understand different viewpoints, and explore a shared future. It will take time and at times be challenging, yet ultimately I believe through the power of conversation we can take agency for our future, in a way that involves as many people as possible. Thats why CNI is facilitating this series.
The group will meet every other Wednesday at 7pm at the hall, starting May 21st.
We will follow the Way of Council, a simple practice where people speak from the heart, listen deeply, and show mutual respect. Initially the group will be open, then from the 2nd session it will be closed. Everyone is welcome, though it requires willingness to engage and a commitment to the process.
What this isn’t:
-Another board or decision-making body
-A debate where there are winners and losers
-A place for complaints without constructive thinking
Get in touch if you have any questions.
