RAASAY COMMUNITY RENEWABLES
Generating renewable energy and environmental benefits
Raasay Community Renewables (RCR) is a Community Benefit Society (registration number 8459) set up by the residents of the Isle of Raasay to build and operate two community-owned run-of-river hydro-electric generation schemes which harness the combined potential of the 99KW Inverarish Burn Hydro and the 38KW Mine Burn Hydro.
We are doing this to build a sustainable and green future for our island.
ELECTRICITY GENERATION
The Raasay Community Renewables schemes will generate, on average, an estimated 520,000kWh of electricity each year. The two schemes officially started producing electricity at the end of September 2022.
COMMUNITY BENEFIT FUND
Conservative financial projections indicate the schemes will generate a community benefit payment in 2024 of c£6k rising yearly to c£28k by 2031. The community benefit payments will provide significant income which will be invested in community projects on Raasay.
CLEAN ENERGY & A CLEAN FUTURE
It is estimated 127 cubic tonnes of CO 2 emissions will be saved each year.
Developing the schemes has got the community thinking about our impact on the environment and the changes we need to make to safeguard it for future generations.
